Enjoy Your Bottled… Tap Water?

12thSep. × ’08

Bottled water is all the rage right now despite growing concerns about its effect on the environment and the water quality. A group in New York City has come up with a partial solution: Don’t replace bottles, fill them–with tap water. Tap’dNY  offers bottled water that comes directly from regular NY water taps and even offers free samples for people who aren’t too sure about the program.

Looking for a taste? Tap’dNY is honest-to-goodness New York City tap water. Samples are available at over 500,000 taps throughout New York City. Sure, we purify it some, through Reverse Osmosis, removing chlorine, fluoride and other impurities, but it’s still the same award winning taste you know have love. Read more about it here.

I think it’s a great idea, and raises awareness of the issues that surround our bottle fetish. Hopefully other cities around the country will start promoting their own water system as an alternative to ‘Fiji’ H2O.

Seems a shame to drive a bottle of water halfway around the globe, what with the climate and oil situations being what they are. The message is catching on! There’s a great piece in Salon, follow the link, drink in the facts.
